Hi, I’m Maria Ruby Scott.

I’m Maria Ruby Scott, a set carpenter and furniture restoration specialist based in Glasgow.  I’m currently building my own self-employed set carpentry business, combining traditional woodworking skills with practical set construction experience for theatre, film, television, and creative productions.

My journey into carpentry began with a passion for craftsmanship and restoring furniture. I studied Furniture Restoration for three years at City of Glasgow College, where I developed a strong foundation in woodworking, repair techniques, finishing, and attention to detail. That experience taught me the value of quality craftsmanship and gave me a deep appreciation for working with materials by hand.

I then moved into the world of set construction and scenic carpentry, training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. There, I’ve been learning the practical and creative skills needed to build sets for performance and production environments from structural construction and scenic elements to problem-solving under pressure and working as part of a production team.

My work is driven by a love for creating things that are both functional and visually impactful. Whether it’s building scenery, constructing custom pieces, or restoring older furniture, I take pride in producing reliable, high-quality work with care and precision.
